The thrust spacer, which is also referred to as a retainer ring, sits between the top half and lower half of your washer’s agitator. Due to normal wear and tear, the small plastic ring can wear out. When this occurs, your Roper washer model RTW4516F will exhibit certain symptoms, such as, the upper agitator not agitating enough, or your machine may emit a chattering noise during agitation. Taking the agitator assembly apart and replacing the thrust spacer will resolve both symptoms.
Before you start taking your washer apart, make sure you unplug it from the wall or turn it off at the circuit breaker; otherwise, you risk electrocution. Work gloves and safety goggles are also necessary, and should be worn throughout the repair.
If a worn thrust spacer isn’t the cause of your washer’s malfunction, and you can’t pinpoint the problem, please contact us today to schedule an appliance repair appointment.
