How to Replace a Damaged Air Vent Gasket in Your Whirlpool Dishwasher

Your dishwasher’s air vent, which is located in-between the appliance’s inner and outer door, is equipped with a small rubber gasket. The gasket creates a seal that prevents water from leaking out of the vent and onto your kitchen floor. After years of use, the gasket can begin to break down. If you find a small puddle on the floor underneath the left side of your Whirlpool dishwasher model WDT750SAHV, the air vent gasket is likely the problem and will need replacing.

How to Replace the Air Vent Gasket in Your Whirlpool Dishwasher

Before you begin the repair, unplug your dishwasher and turn off the water running to the appliance. It’s always a good idea to wear work gloves and safety goggles to protect your eyes and hands as you disassemble and reassemble your appliance.

  1. Open your dishwasher door and remove all the screws securing the inner and outer door panels together. Then, pull the panels apart. Near the top of the control board housing you’ll find a retaining latch: rotate the latch up. Next, with a flat head screwdriver, push back the retaining clips which hold the control board housing to the dishwasher’s outer door. Now remove the control board housing from the outer door and with a string, tie the housing to the side of the inner door panel.
  2. Completely separate the outer door from the inner door and place the outer panel somewhere safe.
  3. Locate the air vent cover on the inner door panel and rotate the part counterclockwise to detach it from the front of the component. Then, remove the air vent from the back of the inner door. Once the air vent is no longer attached to your dishwasher, take the damaged gasket off the vent.
  4. To install the new gasket simply push it into the indentation around the air vent opening.
  5. Once the gasket is in place, you can snap the air vent back on the dishwasher door, and then replace its cover by rotating the part clockwise.
  6. After you have reinstalled the air vent, you can begin reassembling the dishwasher door. First, grab the outer door and place it on the hinges at the bottom of the dishwasher. Then, untie the control board housing from the side of the inner door, and reinstall the component on the outer door by snapping it into the retaining clips and pushing the retaining latch down. Finally, reconnect the outer and inner door panels by squeezing them together and reattaching the screws you took out earlier.
  7. To finish up your repair, plug-in your dishwasher and turn the water running to it back on.
