Why Your Samsung Refrigerator is Making Less Ice Than Normal

While you probably aren’t sitting there counting the ice cubes in your ice maker, you will likely notice when there is less ice made than usual. Throughout a normal day, a Samsung refrigerator will produce about 120 ice cubes. It should produce a full tray of ice every 90 minutes if functioning properly. However, if there is noticeably less ice being made per day, this isn’t something that should be ignored. Less ice being made in your freezer means that there is a refrigerator problem. The good news is that it is usually a minor one.

Checking the Temperature

One of the main reasons your refrigerator doesn’t make enough ice rather than no ice at all is because of the temperature. The freezer temperature needs to be set to 0 degrees in order to properly make ice. At temperature higher than that, but still below freezing, you will see smaller cubes, and malformed ones at that. You will want to adjust the temperature if you have less ice or notice that the cubes you do get are rather small.

Checking the Water Inlet

Another reason that your Samsung freezer is not making enough ice is because the water inlet is open, but not open all the way. This can be a common issue after doing maintenance tasks like changing the water filter or repairs where you need to shut the water inlet off. If you have been doing work on your refrigerator, make sure the water inlet is turned all the way on.

Changing the Water Filter

If you can’t remember the last time you changed your water filter, then that becomes the most likely cause of your issue. While your refrigerator will continue to functioning even with a water filter that isn’t changed as often as it should be, it will have an effect. The water filter will still struggle to filter, but the water flow will become restricted and ice will be more difficult to create.
