How to Replace Your Whirlpool Dishwasher’s Cabinet Seal to Make It Quieter

Dishwashers aren’t just sealed to keep water in and prevent water damage. There is also a seal to keep the noise from escaping. If your dishwasher is getting louder and louder, check to see if the black seal along the top and sides is still in place. If it’s broken, or if it’s completely missing, replace it for quieter performance. Order replacement part #W10865081 for Whirlpool dishwasher models and follow these steps:

1. Unplug the dishwasher.

Even though you won’t be removing electrical components, you will be repositioning the dishwasher to access the seal during this repair. Unplug the machine to prevent any risk of electrical disaster.

2. Pull the dishwasher out from the counter.

First, open the door. If you look up at the underside of the countertop, you should see two screws where your dishwasher is secured against the counter. Loosen those two screws and set them aside. Then firmly grab the sides of the open machine and pull it forward a few inches until the whole seal is visible.

3. Remove the old seal.

The cabinet seal fits into a series of grooves around the perimeter of the machine. Slide one side of the seal up out of the grooves and then the other. This motion also pulls the seal free from the top grooves.

4. Install the new cabinet seal.

Orient the new seal in place so the grooved edges go over the dishwasher frame.
Press the central third into the grooves along the top of the dishwasher frame. Then push the sides firmly into place. You should hear faint clicks as the seal locks into position.

5. Reinstall the dishwasher.

Push the dishwasher back into place under the counter and then secure it with the two screws. Then shut the door and plug the dishwasher back in.
