Carrier and Bryant Announce Heat Pump Recall

With winter upon us, you will likely be relying on your heat pump more frequently to keep you and your family comfortable. If your home has a Carrier or Bryant heat pump, it is then important that you are aware of a recall of some of these units that can pose a fire hazard. If you have a Carrier Greenspeed or Bryant Evolution Extreme heat pump, here is what you need to know about this recall.

What You Need to Know About the Recall

On May 11th, 2017, Carrier Corporation announced a recall of roughly 23,000 of its Carrier Greenspeed and Bryant Evolution Extreme heat pumps. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, these heat pumps were recalled due to the fact that the capacitors in the fuse boards within the heat pumps can stop working, which could cause them to overheat, potentially posing a fire hazard. At the time the recall was announced Carrier had received 41 reports of these heat pumps overheating. Fortunately, no injuries, fires, or property damage has been reported as a result of this recall.

The Recalled Units

The heat pumps that were recalled are 2, 3, 4, and 5-ton units sold under the Carrier and Bryant brand names, and they are used for heating and cooling homes. The model numbers for the recalled units are as follows: the Carrier Models are 25VNA024, 25VNA036, 25VNA048, and 25VNA060, and the Bryant model numbers are 280ANV024, 280ANV036, 280ANV048, and 280ANV060. These units were sold at Sears stores and by HVAC dealers nationwide from June 2011 through August 2016 for between $12,000 and $18,000.

Your Next Steps

If you believe that your heat pump may be one of the recalled units, it is important that you contact Carrier or Bryant for further instruction. They can help walk you through the process of determining whether your heat pump has indeed been recalled, and if so, they will schedule an appointment to have your heat pump repaired for free. While our appliance technicians have experience repairing a wide range of heat pumps, it is always important that you deal directly with the manufacturer when a product has been recalled. However, feel free to contact us for any other appliance repair needs that you may have.
