2. Assess the Pump Assembly
Tip the dishwasher gently onto its back with padding underneath. Most pumps sit at the base of the tub. The smaller drain pump usually locks into place with a simple twist, while the circulation pump or combined motor is larger and attached with more screws and hoses.
Before removing anything, take a few photos of wire positions and hose routes. This reference will save time during reassembly.
3. Remove the Old Pump
- Disconnect the pump wiring harness and ground connection.
- Loosen clamps and detach hoses from the pump ports.
- Release the pump—either by rotating it counterclockwise (twist-lock style) or removing screws if it’s bracket-mounted.
- Inspect the gasket or O-ring. Replace it if worn, or transfer it if the new pump doesn’t include one.
4. Install the New Pump
Seat the new pump firmly, ensuring the gasket is properly aligned. Lock or screw it into place, reconnect hoses with clamps, and plug in the wiring harness until it clicks. Double-check that all fittings are snug and secure.
5. Reinstalling the Dishwasher
Slide the appliance back into its cabinet space while guiding the drain hose, power cable, and water line through their openings. Adjust the leveling legs so the door aligns evenly, then secure the mounting brackets.
Reconnect the drain hose with a proper high loop to prevent backflow. Rejoin electrical wires in the junction box using your earlier photo as a guide, then close the cover. Reattach the water supply line and check the connection.
6. Testing and Verification
Restore the water supply and power, then run a quick wash cycle. Listen for strong spray action and proper draining. At the end of the cycle, the tub should be empty. Check beneath the unit with a flashlight for leaks around hose clamps, the sump, or the pump seal.

- Clean filters monthly to prevent debris from reaching the pump.
- Inspect spray arms regularly and clear blocked jets.
- Run a cleaning cycle every few months to remove grease and mineral buildup.
